Internal medicine is the medical specialty that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. Internal medicine specialists are skilled in the management of patients with undifferentiated or multi-systemic disease processes. Internally patients usually do most of their work in hospitals, as internal medicine patients are seriously ill or require complex research. Internal medicine specialists often have subspecialties in diseases that affect certain organs or organ systems.
